Interview questions

1. Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I plan on being graduated from college with an agriculture science degree. I want to own my own farm or ranch, with several acres of land.  I see myself making a good living, working hard, and enjoying my life to its fullest. I see myself getting married and starting a family.

2. What kind of work do you enjoy the most?

I really enjoy working outside. I enjoy doing manual labor. I like working on a project that I can see the progress. I like being able to  look back at the end of the day and see a completed project.

3. What motivates me?

I am motivated by being able to be independent. I want to be able to pay my own way. Be free to make choices for my life. I want to be able to  live my life the way that I choose, within the confines of the law.

4. Tell me about a time that you made a mistake.

My boss told me to put woodchips on the path. I thought that he meant put them on the the path to the barn, but he really wanted them on the horse path. From this I learned that it is very important to listen to instructions. It costs people time, money, and a lot of extra work if I do not.

5. Who do you look up to/who is your mentor?

I look up to my dad. He worked on a dairy farm for 6 years, while going to college to get a bachelors degree in finance. He taught me about motivation and hard work.  I also look up to my grandfather. He was a brick mason by trade, but he loved hunting and fishing. He introduced me to these. Mr. Bailey, my current boss. is my mentor. He is teaching me how to work with animals, and do a lot of different tasks on the farm.

6.  What kind of person do you refuse to work with?

I would not like to work with someone that does not take the job seriously. Someone that does not show up on time and respect the boss or owner of the company would not be someone I would like to work with.  I would not like to work with someone that tries to take advantage of myself or others.

7. Tell me how you handled a difficult situation?

One time I was working at the farm and I had taken a buddy along to help out. My boss had just bought a new axe. The friend I had taken with me swung the axe at a log and broke the handle off on the first swing. We picked up the axe and went to the boss and explained what happed, and offered to pay for a new one.

8. How would you like to be challenged by a job?

I would like to be able to learn while I am working. I would like to learn something new everyday. I want to be mentally stimulated.

9. Tell me about an accomplishment that you were most proud of?

I was very proud of the first time I shot a deer. I was hunting by myself, and had to take care of everything on my own. I am proud of this moment because it helped me connect with my father and grandfather even though they were no longer here to see it. I know they would have been proud of me.

10.  How do you deal with conflict?

I handle conflict by taking a step back to calm down, but I do not like to back down. I like to talk things through without showing my temper.
